Dr. Sanjiv Kumar Maheshwari is the eldest son of Shri Radhey Shyam and Mrs Suman Lata Maheshwari resident of Ujhani (Badaun) UP. He grow up in Ujahni, along with his 3 younger brothers and one younger sister. His father is a shopkeeper and mother is a house maker. He was admitted to a local Municipal School in Ujhani, from where he passed 5 Standard from District Board Examination. Later on for his education, he moved to MGNPIC, Ujhani, in 1979 in class 6, from where he did pass 10 and 12, in 1984 and 1986 respectively.

Since the further education was not available at Ujhani, he got admitted to Bareilly College, Bareilly (UP)for B. Sc. in Biology Group. After completing the Graduation from Rohilkahnd University, due to interest in Science and Science Education, He appeared in All India Entrance Examinations for PG Courses leading to M Sc (Biochemistry). Later on did pass the GATE (Graduate Apptiduce Test in Engineering) and CSIR-UGC combined test (NET) in Life Sciences. He got UGC-CSIR's Junior and Senior Research Fellowships (JRF & SRF) during his doctoral studies. After completion of Ph D Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUA&T), Pantnagar, he joined High Altitude Plant Physiology Research Center of H N B Garhwal University (Sringar) as Research Associate in an MNES (Ministry of Non Conventional Energy Resources) sponsered project.
